Fourth Sunday of Advent - 24th December, 2017

Liturgical Reflection

1 Samuel 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16; Luke 1:26-38

A regular part of the Sunday homilist’s process – or any homilist for that matter – is to look for the connection between the first and third readings.  In today’s readings, this is not readily found: it jumps from God’s message to David in the Book of Samuel “Are you the man to build me a house to dwell in?” to the seemingly unrelated account of the Annunciation in Luke.  But of course, Mary is to become the dwelling place of God!

It is a surprise to see that the opening prayer of the Mass is the prayer we say at the end of the Rosary.  This prayer is a summary of the story of our redemption.
