Melbourne Community Welcomes Nashville Dominicans

10 September 2018 | General Interest

The Holyrood Community welcomed Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia to Camberwell on Saturday 8th September. The congregation has its origins in Nashville, Tennessee.

Three sisters arrived in Melbourne earlier in the year to make a foundation here. Two sisters in the new community were born in Sydney and the other in Kansas, USA. The sisters are living in temporary accommodation in Melton until their new convent is built in Bacchus Marsh sometime next year. They have taken up ministry at St Catherine of Siena Primary School and the secondary Catholic College in Melton West.

It was good to share stories of our Congregations and to learn a little of the history of our different foundations. The Dominican Sisters of St Cecilia were founded in 1860 in Nashville and our own Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia in Maitland NSW on this day 10th September in 1867.

We celebrated our rich Dominican tradition expressed in different ways across the world.
